Waisak: Jakarta's Sudirman-Thamrin Car-Free Day Cancelled 31 May 2026

The Car-Free Day (CFD) in Jakarta’s Sudirman-Thamrin corridor has been cancelled on Sunday, 31 May 2026. Jakarta’s Transportation Agency (Dishub DKI) stated the cancellation is due to the national religious holiday of Waisak 2570 BE. “Car-Free Day on Sunday, 31 May 2026 has been cancelled due to Waisak 2570 BE,” the agency said via its official Instagram account on Wednesday (27 May). According to Governor’s Regulation No. 12 of 2016 on CFD implementation, the event can be cancelled during religious holidays requiring special traffic arrangements for worshippers. Additionally, CFD may be suspended for national or international events.

Separately, the odd-even vehicle restriction system on 25 main roads will be suspended from 27 to 28 May for Eid al-Adha 1447 Hijriah. The system is typically enforced during weekday rush hours and not applied on weekends or official national holidays. Traffic adjustments are in response to predicted changes in vehicle movement around places of worship and tourist areas during the extended holiday period.

DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has advanced the Car-Free Day timing to 05:30-10:00 WIB starting 1 June 2026, with plans to extend CFD to the Rasuna Said area and revise operational hours. The Jakarta Regional House of Representatives has urged thorough traffic and street vendor assessments for these changes.
