Waisak 2026 will be celebrated simultaneously on 31 May. This religious observance is expected to serve as a space for Buddhist spiritual reflection and peace.

According to the Ministry of Religious Affairs (Kemenag) official website, the 2570 BE/2026 Waisak theme is ‘Dharma as Source of Morality and Wisdom’ with the sub-theme ‘Love as the Source of World Peace’. The theme is intended not only as a spiritual foundation but also reflected in social practices that uphold human values and harmony.

Religious Affairs Minister Nasaruddin Umar stated that Waisak is a strategic opportunity to strengthen national values and religious tolerance in Indonesia. He said the Dharma message promoted during Waisak is relevant to building peaceful and civilised society.

“This year’s theme is very strong. Dharma as the source of morality and wisdom must underpin national life. From this arises love, which forms the basis of world peace,” he said.

Borobudur Temple will host the main Waisak celebration on 31 May 2026. Additionally, the peak commemoration will take place through Puja Bhakti ceremonies on 31 May 2026 at viharas, cetiyas, schools, and Buddhist temples across Indonesia.
