Wahono will meet with Kim Jong-il

JAKARTA (JP): Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR)
Wahono is scheduled to meet with North Korean President Kim Jong
-il during his goodwill visit to Pyongyang this week.

Wahono left for Pyongyang on Sunday to head a 10-person DPR
delegation for a week-long visit.

"This is the first Indonesian delegation to North Korea to be
received by the new Korean leader," Minister of Foreign Affairs
Ali Alatas said on Monday in confirming the meeting with Kim Jong
-il.

"There is a special expectation from this meeting. It's a
goodwill visit," Alatas said when asked whether the DPR
delegation would try to mediate a solution to the Korean
peninsula crisis.

The visit is at the invitation of the Supreme People's
Assembly. The delegation will also be visiting a number of
industrial regions in North Korea. (emb/mds)
