Wahdah Islamiyah Congress: Time for the Ummah to Collaborate

The fifth congress of Wahdah Islamiyah has delivered a strong message about the importance of unity within the Muslim community, particularly among Islamic mass organisations in Indonesia, amidst the diversity of thought and dynamics of Islamic movements in the country.

Chairman of the Wahdah Islamiyah Sharia Council, Ustaz Muhammad Yusran Anshar, stated in Makassar on Thursday (20/8/2026) that Wahdah Islamiyah is always open to establishing cooperation and collaborating with various Islamic organisations and other elements of the nation.

“None of us is able to walk alone in this struggle. We need collaboration and cooperation, including synergising with other organisations or elements that may differ from us in matters of a furu’iyat (branch of religion) nature. This is a form of ta’awun ’alal birri wat taqwa (mutual assistance in goodness),” he said.

In his guidance, he conveyed that the movement of da’wah and community development can never proceed in a partial manner. The spirit of collaboration (ta’awun) between organisations must set aside group ego and prioritise unity for the greater good. He also reminded every element not to feel the most righteous or the most meritorious.

The diversity of potential among institutions and organisations was likened to the variety of expertise among the Prophet’s companions, which complemented one another and became a great asset when synergised. The presence of figures and speakers from across organisations and backgrounds at the fifth congress was presented as concrete evidence of Wahdah Islamiyah’s efforts to weave broad Islamic brotherhood and dispel exclusive attitudes.

“Although there are differences in branch matters, we can still collaborate in goodness without having to justify errors. Our main common goal is to attain the pleasure of Allah, not human satisfaction, and of course the spirit of unity must continue to be echoed,” he said.

Through the momentum of the fifth congress, Wahdah Islamiyah reaffirmed its commitment to being a unifying force, prioritising an inclusive attitude, and being ready to join hands with all Islamic organisations for the progress of the ummah and the nation.
