Wae Rebo tourist attraction reopens to visitors
The Wae Rebo tourist destination in Manggarai, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), has reopened for visitors. The site, often dubbed a ‘sky paradise’, was previously closed since May 13, 2026, due to heavy rain and landslides blocking the trekking route. ‘It has reopened today,’ said Mikael Tonso, Chairman of the Wae Rebo Cultural Preservation Agency, on Monday morning (25/5/2026). Mikael stated that the weather in Wae Rebo has improved and landslide debris on the trekking path has been cleared. ‘The landslide-affected road has been repaired,’ Mikael added. It was previously reported that the Wae Rebo tourist destination in Manggarai, East Nusa Tenggara, was temporarily closed due to a landslide blocking the trekking route to the area. The closure followed prolonged heavy rainfall in the region over recent days. Wae Rebo tourism worker Obhy Dermawan said the temporary closure was made to ensure tourist safety due to fears of further landslides. ‘The landslide and continuous rain were the causes. There was concern of further landslides, hence the temporary closure,’ Obhy said on Saturday (16/5/2026). The landslide was caused by heavy rainfall in the area over recent days. Debris from residents’ plantations covered the trekking path. ‘In the residents’ plantations before the kentongan house,’ Obhy explained.
