Wae Rebo Tourism Village to Close on 2-3 October

The Wae Rebo tourism village in Manggarai, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), will be closed to tourist visits on 2-3 October 2026. The destination, nicknamed ‘heaven above the clouds’, is closing to accommodate a traditional customary ceremony.

“There is a Wae Rebo family event. Therefore, we are closing,” said Obhy Dermawan, a tourism worker in Wae Rebo, when confirmed on Wednesday (2/9/2026).

The customary ceremony being held in Wae Rebo at that time is a ‘pesta kenduri’. The ‘pesta kenduri’ is a Manggarai traditional event held in honour of the deceased.

Obhy stated that the traditional ceremony will take place in the Wae Rebo traditional house. This traditional house is typically used to welcome guests visiting Wae .Rebo.

As is well known, Wae Rebo has long been one of the favourite tourist destinations in Flores. Wae Rebo is situated at an altitude of 1,000 metres above sea level.

There are seven traditional houses that serve as the icon of this tourism village. These conical-shaped traditional houses are called Mbaru Niang.

Wae Rebo also offers beautiful landscapes and a unique culture. Tourists also experience the hospitality of the local residents upon arrival.
