W. Jakarta lacks tourist sites

The head of the West Jakarta Tourism Office, Parlindungan
Hutabarat, expressed concern over the lack of large-scale tourist
attraction sites in the West Jakarta mayoralty.

West Jakarta is the only mayoralty in Jakarta which has a
limited number of tourist attractions, he said.

Large-scale tourist centers are badly needed to enable the
mayoralty to accommodate a greater number of tourists, he said.
According to him, the mayoralty currently functions as the city's
gateway for visitors, especially those arriving by plane at the
Soekarno-Hatta airport and others coming by land transportation
means from the western part of the country.

He said that existing tourist sites in West Jakarta consists
of small-scale amusement centers only.

Parlindungan said that investors are more willing to invest
in the establishment of international night clubs or other kinds
of small-scale entertainment places.

In other regions, there are selections of tourist sites.
North Jakarta, for example, offers maritime tourism along its
seashores. There is also the Ancol Dreamland tourist area and
private cottages on various islands in the Seribu Islands chain.
