JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The German automotive giant, Volkswagen, has announced a recall for its range of electric vehicles. This step follows issues with the battery module that could potentially reduce the range, and in the worst-case scenario, trigger a fire. In detail, 74,579 units come from the VW “ID” family, while 19,452 units are Cupra Born models. The affected models include the Volkswagen ID.3, ID.4, and ID.5. Additionally, the ID. Buzz and ID. Buzz Cargo are also on the list. For the VW brand, the problematic units were produced between 24 June 2023 and 23 August 2024. Meanwhile, the affected Cupra Born units were produced from 27 February 2022 to 21 April 2024. “Regarding this matter, the ID. Buzz in Indonesia is not affected, as it is from the 2025 production year,” stated VW Indonesia in a written statement to Kompas.com on Thursday (26/3/2026). Citing Arena EV, the problem lies in the high-voltage battery module, which is a key part of the vehicle’s energy storage system. If one module experiences a fault, the performance of the entire system may be impacted. Symptoms that may appear include a reduction in range. As a handling measure, technicians will inspect the battery module condition to identify faulty components. Additionally, software updates will be performed to monitor battery health more optimally. If a damaged module is found, that component will be replaced with a new unit. This is not the first case for VW. In January 2026, the manufacturer also handled a similar issue in the United States involving 43,881 units of the 2023 to 2025 VW ID.4.
