MANILA (AP): Fire caused 50 million pesos (US$1 million) in
damage to the Philippine International Convention Center, a five-
story concrete building housing the office of Vice President
Teofisto Guingona, fire officials said on Friday.
Fire investigator Garry Galan said nobody was injured in the
blaze, which may have started in a fourth-floor construction
site. He said the fire, which smoldered for 12 hours from
Thursday night to Friday morning, caused smoke damage to
Guingona's office as well as the nearby offices of two senators.
Other private and government offices on the three upper floors
also sustained smoke, fire and water damage, Galan said.
