VP Gibran welcomes oversight as civic coalition forms "shadow cabinet"
As long as public scrutiny is objective, data-driven, and solution-oriented, I welcome it as valuable input..Jakarta (ANTARA) - Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka welcomed public scrutiny of the performance of the Red and White Cabinet, including a civil society coalition’s initiative to establish a “shadow cabinet.”
“I respect every survey, study, and analysis conducted by credible institutions,” the vice president said in a statement received on Wednesday.
“I also respect every form of public participation, including from analysts, academics, the media, as well as initiatives by young people to present their views through a ‘shadow cabinet,’” Gibran added.
He said that in a democracy, every citizen has the right to express opinions, offer criticism, and scrutinize the government.
Such public participation, Gibran added, reflects the health of Indonesia’s democracy.
“As long as public scrutiny is objective, data-driven, and solution-oriented, I welcome it as valuable input for improving the government’s performance,” he said.
He emphasized that as the government works to improve people’s welfare, it must also listen to public input and ensure that every policy it adopts benefits the public.
Therefore, Gibran said he welcomes constructive public input and scrutiny that can improve government performance, strengthen Indonesia’s democracy, and maintain public trust through openness and accountability.
His remarks came in response to an initiative launched by a civil society coalition on July 17, 2026, to establish a “shadow cabinet” to monitor the policies of President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran.
The “shadow cabinet” comprises 15 individuals from diverse professional and academic backgrounds, each assigned to monitor one or more members of the Red and White Cabinet with corresponding portfolios.
