VP Gibran Opens Pesparawi XIV in Manokwari, Stresses Peace in Papua
Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka officially opened the 14th National Church Choir Festival (Pesparawi) in Manokwari, West Papua, on Saturday evening (20/6). In his address, the Vice President stressed that peace is the primary foundation for sustainable development in Tanah Papua.
Gibran stated that the government is fully committed to equitable development across all corners of Indonesia, with Papua as a top priority. However, he underscored that physical progress must be accompanied by security stability. “Development requires a conducive and peaceful situation. Therefore, I appreciate this year’s Pesparawi theme, which highlights peace and fraternity in Tanah Papua,” Gibran told the participants and invited guests.
The Vice President specifically noted the use of Borarsi Field as the main venue for Pesparawi XIV, recalling his visit in November 2025 when the field was still under construction. He urged the community to take good care of the completed public facilities, stating that the presence of modern infrastructure in Manokwari is tangible proof that development is no longer Java-centric. “This shows that development is now not only concentrated on Java Island but is also being carried out massively in other regions,” he asserted. “The hope is that this will reduce inequality, expand access, and improve the welfare of the Papuan people,” Gibran added.
Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka conducted a series of working visits to East Nusa Tenggara, Gorontalo, West Papua, and South Papua from 18 to 21 June 2026. On the final day, Sunday (21/6), the Vice President was scheduled to depart for Asmat Regency to inspect Agats Regional General Hospital, the Sago Field School, and the Cathedral of the Holy Cross. The 14th National Pesparawi 2026 in Manokwari is expected to be a momentum for strengthening tolerance and fraternity among religious communities, as well as a showcase for ecclesiastical vocal arts from all provinces in Indonesia.
