VP Gibran Inspects Stalled Way Bungur Bridge Project in Lampung, Promises Swift Completion

Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka inspected the Way Bungur Bridge construction project, which connects Tanjung Tirto and Kali Pasir villages in East Lampung Regency, Lampung, on Wednesday (15/7). The bridge has been stalled since 2016, forcing residents and schoolchildren to cross the river’s strong currents using klotok boats without safety equipment. During the visit, Gibran boarded a klotok to view the construction progress from the waterway and received a briefing from public works officials. He expressed concern over the dangerous conditions faced by children travelling to school and confirmed that an emergency bridge would be finished within two weeks, allowing motorcycles to pass. The permanent bridge remains on track, though he stressed that local government cooperation is essential to resolve land acquisition and technical issues. Following the inspection, the Vice President visited MTs Muhammadiyah I Way Bungur, toured a cassava farm in Muara Jaya, and explored the Pugung Raharjo Archaeological Park, a cultural heritage site the central government aims to develop for historical and educational tourism.
