Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Rakam has stated that the government is continuing to accelerate national development, including in Papua, which he described as one of the administration’s priorities. He made the remarks while opening the 14th National Church Choir Festival (Pesparawi) in Manokwari, West Papua, on Saturday evening, 20 June 2026. Vice President Gibran noted that the development process, encompassing both infrastructure and human empowerment, is no longer focused solely on Java but is now spread evenly across Indonesia. “Development is no longer Java-centric, but Indonesia-centric. That is why Papua’s development is one of the President’s priorities. Starting from the construction of hospitals, People’s Schools, markets, the Trans Papua road, Free Nutritious Meals, and Fishermen’s Villages,” said Vice President Gibran. “The hope is that going forward, this can reduce inequality, expand access, and improve the welfare of the Papuan people,” he continued. He highlighted one recently built facility, the Borarsi Field, which was being used for the several-day Pesparawi event. Regarding the completed facility, he asked the people of Manokwari to continue maintaining and caring for it properly. He suggested residents report any damage to the local government and remind each other about its upkeep. He cautioned that the development carried out by various parties for the Papuan people requires a conducive and peaceful situation. The Vice President then expressed his appreciation for the message of peace and brotherhood conveyed through the organisation of the 14th National Pesparawi in West Papua. “This is very relevant and deserves our collective support,” Gibran Rakabuming concluded.
