VP backs judicial review on new law
JAKARTA: Vice President Hamzah Haz expressed on Wednesday his support for the Public Servants' Wealth Audit Commission (KPKPN) in its effort to seek a Supreme Court judicial review of the new Law on the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPTPK).
After meeting with Hamzah, KPKPN member Lili Asjudireja said Hamzah had acknowledged that the judicial review request was part of the effort to find a better mechanism for eradicating corruption.
According to Lili, Hamzah said there should be two commissions to handle corruption cases, one being the KPKPN, which would prevent corruption, and the other the KPTPK, which would investigate corruption.
"If the two commissions could collaborate, corruption cases would not need to go to the police and Attorney General's Office, but could go directly to the court as the combination of the two commissions would give them powers ranging from investigation to prosecution," he said.
As things stand, however, the new law on the KPTPK requires the dissolution of the KPKPN once the KPTPK has been established.-- Antara
