Voter cards ready soon in Singapore

BATAM, Riau: Indonesian citizens living in Singapore, and who are eligible to vote, can obtain presidential election voter cards by June 22 at the Indonesian Embassy here, according to a spokesperson at the Indonesian Embassy in Singapore.

Setyadi, the staffer, said that in the legislative election, some 41,000 eligible voters got the voter cards, but only 20,000 voted in the April 5 election.

The number of people that turned up in the ballot booths at that time was much lower on election day, apparently because the many migrant workers in the country had difficulty getting permission from their employers to go vote. -- Antara
