Von der Leyen welcomes Radev as Bulgaria's new Prime Minister

Moscow (ANTARA) - European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on Friday extended congratulations to former Bulgarian President Rumen Radev, who has officially become the new prime minister of the Balkan country. “Congratulations to Rumen Radev on his appointment as Prime Minister of Bulgaria. Amid profound geopolitical changes, we have a strong agenda to work on,” von der Leyen stated on X. Radev was appointed prime minister on Thursday after his party, Progressive Bulgaria, achieved a major victory in the parliamentary elections last April. This victory is seen as boosting hopes for political stability in Bulgaria, which has held eight elections in the past five years. According to reports from Bulgarian National Television, Radev enjoys a high level of public trust among Bulgarian citizens. Hitherto, he has repeatedly voiced opposition to military aid for Ukraine and advocated for resolving the conflict through diplomatic channels.
