The National People’s Brigade Volunteers (BRN) have denied that seventh Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) conducted field visits to bolster his son Gibran Rakabuming Raka’s political position for the 2029 elections. This was stated by BRN’s chairman, Relly Reagen, following his meeting with Jokowi at his residence in Sumber Village, Solo, Central Java, on Thursday (28 May). “There is no connection to Gibran. It is purely for PSI. How to strengthen PSI, candidates for the House of Representatives (DPR RI), provincial, regency, and city legislative councils,” said Relly. Lampung Province will be the first destination of Jokowi’s national tour. During his presidency, numerous programmes have benefited the public. “Jokowi’s influence is significant as Lampung has seen extensive development during his presidency,” said Relly. “Highways, dams, provincial road improvements via the Impres fund during both of Jokowi’s terms, as well as completed ports and terminals,” he added. Relly is confident Jokowi’s presence will boost PSI’s vote share in Lampung. “Our target is around 60-70%, solely in Lampung,” he said. PSI has yet to secure any legislative representatives at national, provincial, or regency/city levels. Relly stated the party, led by Kaesang Pangarep, aims to field one legislator per electoral district (dapil). “Currently vacant, we aim for one legislator each in DPR RI districts 1 and 2, one per provincial legislative council district (eight in total), and for regency and city councils,” he added. However, he declined to elaborate further on PSI’s vote targets. “Candidate screening is the party’s responsibility. I’m just a volunteer,” he said.
