Volunteer Response to News of Jokowi Joining PSI
Volunteer supporters of Joko Widodo have welcomed the plan for the former President to join the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI). Jokowi is reportedly set to become the Chairman of the PSI Board of Trustees.
Former Jokowi Mania (Joman) Deputy Chairman Andi Azwan expressed full support should Jokowi decide to join PSI or any other political party. “We fully support that. There is no problem. We are diehard supporters of Mr Jokowi. Whatever he instructs, we are ready,” said Andi, who is also Chairman of the Militan Gibran Nusantara Board of Trustees, after meeting Jokowi at his residence in Sumber Village, Banjarsari District, Solo, on Monday, 15 June 2026.
Andi stated that the fact Jokowi’s supporters are spread across various political parties would not be an issue if he chose to join PSI, or even if he did not. “If he doesn’t join PSI, that’s also fine. It’s everyone’s constitutional right. There is no directive to join a specific party. He is a democrat who respects human rights and the constitution,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Brigade Rakyat Nusantara (BRN) volunteer group expressed hope that Jokowi would not join any political party. “We would like Mr Jokowi to stand above all groups,” said BRN Chairman Relly Reagen, who also visited Jokowi that day. He believes Jokowi’s position outside a political party would allow all his sympathisers to feel close to him, given that his supporters are currently spread across various parties and community groups. “Mr Jokowi’s sympathisers are also in many other parties and groups,” he noted.
Previously, PSI Central Executive Board Political Affairs Chairman Bestari Barus stated that Jokowi would soon become part of PSI. According to him, signals of Jokowi joining had been evident for some time, including during PSI Chairman Kaesang Pangarep’s visits to Lampung and South Sumatra. “There have been strong hints,” Bestari said on Saturday, 13 June 2026.
