Jakarta (ANTARA) - Volkswagen has reportedly decided not to launch the ID. Golf in the near future, despite previous rumours that the electric car would be released in 2028.

According to Arena EV on Thursday (14/5), Volkswagen CEO Thomas Schäfer said that the company does not plan to release an electric version of the Golf in the next few years.

Instead, Volkswagen is currently focusing on preparing several other electric vehicle models, such as the ID. Polo, a new version of the ID.3 Neo, and the ID. Cross.

These vehicles will use a new generation SSP platform, which features an 800V architecture, more advanced battery technology, and new software developed in collaboration with Rivian.

The SSP platform was initially planned to be launched this year, but it has been delayed. The first vehicle based on the platform is now expected to be launched in 2028.

Although the ID. Golf was previously said to be one of the first models to use the SSP, Thomas confirmed that models from Audi and Porsche will use the platform first.

Volkswagen is also said to be re-evaluating its pricing strategy for electric vehicles in the face of intense competition from Chinese automakers.

Thomas said that the company needs to recalculate the costs of developing the platform, including materials and investments, in order to remain competitive in the global electric vehicle market.
