Volkswagen recalls 94,000 electric vehicles due to battery issues
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Volkswagen Group has announced a large-scale recall of its electric vehicles worldwide following the discovery of issues with battery modules. The fault could potentially cause a reduction in driving range up to the risk of excessive heat that may trigger fires. According to Arena EV on Friday, Volkswagen Group is recalling 94,031 electric vehicle units worldwide. The majority of the affected vehicles come from the Volkswagen and Cupra lines. Several models included in the recall list are the Volkswagen ID.3, Volkswagen ID.4, Volkswagen ID.5, up to the Volkswagen ID. Buzz and its commercial variant ID. Buzz Cargo. For the Volkswagen brand, the affected vehicles were produced between 24 June 2023 and 23 August 2024. Meanwhile, the affected Cupra Born models were produced between 27 February 2022 and 21 April 2024. If one module is damaged, it can affect the overall system performance. In mild conditions, the vehicle may experience a reduction in driving range, while in more serious conditions, the battery could overheat, increasing the fire risk. To address this, Volkswagen will conduct a thorough inspection of the battery modules to identify faulty components. Previously, in January 2024, Volkswagen had also recalled 43,881 ID.4 model units in the United States due to potential battery overheating. This latest recall is recorded with reference number 16271R by the KBA authority, which vehicle owners can use to check if their unit is affected.
