Volkswagen launches ID. Unyx 08, a collaboration with Xpeng
Automotive manufacturer Volkswagen launched the pure electric SUV ID. Unyx 08 on Thursday (16/4), developed in collaboration with Xpeng. According to a CarNewsChina broadcast on Friday, the ID. Unyx 08 is available in three variants priced from 229,900 yuan to 289,900 yuan, or approximately Rp577 million to Rp728 million. This first mass-produced model from the Volkswagen-Xpeng partnership incorporates a new Volkswagen design with Chinese aesthetic elements. The ID. Unyx 08 measures 5,000 mm in length, 1,954 mm in width, and 1,688 mm or 1,672 mm in height when using standard-position air suspension. Its wheelbase is 3,030 mm. The front fascia houses over 400 individually controllable LED light clusters. At the rear, it features a line-shaped light bar, an illuminated Volkswagen logo, and a roof spoiler. The vehicle, with hidden door handles and roof rails, comes with options for 20-inch and 21-inch wheels and standard four-piston Brembo fixed calipers. The intelligent AI assistant integrates capabilities from Z.AI and Baidu’s large language model Wenxin. This five-seater vehicle offers 766 litres of boot space, expandable to 1,845 litres with the rear seats folded. The front seats include 12-way electric adjustments with 10-point pneumatic massage, ventilation, and heating functions. The ID. Unyx 08 is equipped with advanced driver assistance systems using an end-to-end Vision-Language-Action (VLA) model to enhance level 2 city Navigation on Autopilot (NOA). The system is supported by 11 cameras, three millimetre-wave radars, and 12 ultrasonic radars connected to a chip with up to 1,500 TOPS of computing power. The base variant uses a single rear-wheel electric motor with 230 kW (308 hp) of power, while the all-wheel-drive variant employs two electric motors with a total output of 370 kW (496 hp). The vehicle features LFP battery options from CATL with 82 kWh and 95 kWh capacities, enabling ranges of 630 km to 730 km (CLTC). The 95 kWh battery supports DC fast charging up to 315 kW, allowing an additional 150 km of range in five minutes.
