Volix Speaks Out After Being Linked to Indonesia's Bakom: We Are Not Government Partners!
The buzz surrounding the “homeless media” and the New Media Forum established by Indonesia’s Government Communication Agency (Bakom) has implicated several popular digital media outlets in Indonesia. One of the most spotlighted by the public is Volix, after its name appeared on the list of media reportedly involved in the forum.
However, amid the intense discussions on social media, Volix has finally spoken out. Through its official Instagram account @volix.media, it issued a statement affirming that it has no official relationship with Bakom as suggested in the reports.
In the post, Volix categorically denied ever attending any events organised by Bakom.
“Volix HAS NEVER attended meetings, press conferences, or any events organised by the Government Communication Agency (Bakom RI),” read Volix’s official statement on Thursday, 7 May 2026.
Volix went further to dispel notions that it is a government-supporting media or part of an official collaboration formed by Bakom with various digital media outlets.
“Volix is NOT an official partner as a government-supporting media, and HAS NEVER communicated directly with Bakom RI regarding such matters,” the statement continued.
Volix stated that this clarification was made to correct information that had already spread in the public domain. It reaffirmed its commitment to operating as an independent company amid the ongoing controversy.
“Volix will continue to uphold its commitment as an independent company,” it wrote.
The statement immediately drew attention from netizens, as Volix’s name had previously been mentioned in the list of digital media presented by Bakom RI Head, Muhammad Qodari, during the introduction of the New Media Forum in Jakarta on Wednesday, 6 May 2026.
During that press conference, Qodari explained that the government is attempting to expand public communication patterns by partnering with influential digital media players on social media.
“The presence of our New Media friends reflects Bakom’s efforts to reach the public as widely as possible, not only through conventional media but also through digital channels that have become the reality of media or digital communication reality as a form of technological and societal development,” Qodari said, quoted by Antara.
