Volcanic ash still spreading, Lebak Regency extends remote learning until tomorrow

“We are extending the distance learning to prioritise the health of teachers, education staff and children from the effects of volcanic ash from Mount Anak Krakatau.”

Lebak (ANTARA) — The Lebak Regency government in Banten, through its Education Office, has extended the implementation of distance learning (PJJ) because the spread of volcanic ash from the eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau (GAK) is still ongoing.

Head of the Lebak Regency Education Office Dodi Irawan, in a statement in Lebak on Tuesday, said the office extended distance learning until Wednesday (9/9) because volcanic ash was still spreading.

Distance learning applies to all levels from early childhood education (PAUD), kindergarten (TK), primary school (SD) and junior secondary school (SMP) and their equivalents.

He said pupils at these levels could study at home or in study groups, or carry out learning activities online.

To that end, the office is cooperating with school principals to ensure distance learning runs well. Likewise, he said, parents are expected to accompany and supervise their children while studying at home.

“We ask teachers and students to wear masks and goggles when leaving the house to avoid respiratory problems and eye irritation,” he said.

Meanwhile, Yusuf and Alisa, pupils at Al Furqon Primary School in Rangkasbitung, are following lessons online because distance learning has been extended.

“For the past two days we have been learning online because of the effects of the Mount Anak Krakatau eruption,” said Yusuf.
