The BMKG has revealed the distribution of volcanic ash across five volcanoes in Indonesia. The agency stated that volcanic ash was not detected at three volcanoes but was detected at two others.

This information was disclosed via BMKG’s official Instagram account, @infobmkg, on Friday (11/09/2026). Based on analysis of Himawari-9 RGB imagery, as of 07:00 WIB, volcanic ash dispersion was not detected at three volcanoes, namely Mount Anak Krakatau, Mount Dukono, and Mount Ibu.

“The volcanic ash dispersion of Mount Anak Krakatau was not detected,” stated BMKG.

BMKG provided a disclaimer that the distribution of volcanic dust cannot yet be certain because the volcanic areas are covered by clouds. BMKG also informed that the lack of identified volcanic dust in satellite analysis products does not necessarily mean that volcanic dust is absent.

Meanwhile, volcanic ash dispersion was detected at Mount Lewotolok and Mount Semeru. At Mount Semeru, the volcanic ash is moving towards the southeast at an altitude of 15,000 feet or 4.5 km.

“Moving towards the southeast, covering parts of Lumajang Regency,” said BMKG.

As for the volcanic ash dispersion at Mount Lewotolok, it is moving towards the west at an altitude of 7,000 feet or 2.1 km. The volcanic ash is spreading as far as Lembata Regency.

“The dispersion from the surface to an altitude of 7,000 feet (2.1 km) is moving towards the west, covering parts of Lembata Regency,” it said.

Three Volcanoes Erupted This Morning

Previously, three volcanoes experienced eruptions this morning, namely Mount Semeru, Mount Ili Lewotolok, and Mount Ibu. These eruptions lasted between 41 seconds and 187 seconds.

Quoted from the Magma Geological Agency website, Friday (11/09/2026), the three volcanoes erupted with different times and durations. Mount Semeru is located in East Java, Mount Ili Lewotolok in East Nusa Tenggara, and Mount Ibu in North Maluku.

Mount Ibu

It was recorded that Mount Ibu experienced two eruptions this morning, specifically at 08:56 WIT and 08:58 WIT. At 08:56 WIT, the eruption was recorded on the seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 18 mm and a duration of 41 seconds.

During the second eruption at 08:58 WIT this morning, the seismograph recorded an eruption with a maximum amplitude of 28 mm and a duration of 45 seconds. The visual eruption was not observed.

However, at midnight, Mount Ibu also experienced an eruption at exactly 00:49 WIT, with an ash column height of 400 m above the peak or 1,725 m above sea level, with a maximum amplitude of 28 mm and a duration of 48 seconds. The ash column was observed to be grey with thick intensity towards the northwest.

Mount Ili Lewotolok

This morning, Mount Ili Lewotolok also experienced two eruptions recorded at 07:09 WITA and 08:02 WITA. During the first eruption at 07:09 WITA, the ash column height was observed at approximately 600 m above the peak or 2,023 m above sea level. The eruption was recorded on the seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 28 mm and a duration of 48 seconds.

In the early hours of this morning, Mount Ili Lewotolok was also recorded to have experienced three eruptions at 00:57 WITA, 02:08 WITA, and 02:21 WITA. At 00:57, the eruption was recorded on the seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 40 mm and a duration of 70 seconds.

At 02:08 WITA, the eruption recorded a maximum amplitude of 40 mm and a duration of 63 seconds. The ash column height was observed at 500 m above the peak or 1,923 m above sea level. The ash column was observed to be white to grey with thick intensity towards the west.

At 02:21 WITA, an eruption of Mount Ili Lewotolok was recorded with a maximum amplitude of 40 mm and a duration of 94 seconds. The ash column height was observed at approximately 600 m above the peak or 2,023 m above sea level. The ash column was observed to be grey to black with thick intensity towards the west.

Mount Semeru

Furthermore, Mount Semeru also experienced an eruption in the early hours of this morning, specifically at 00:26 WIB. Subsequently, in the morning, Mount Semeru erupted three times, recorded at 04:27 WIB, 05:05 WIB, and 06:16 WIB.

For the first and second eruptions, the visual eruption of Mount Semeru was not observed. For the third eruption at 06:16 WIB, the visual eruption was also not observed. This eruption was recorded on the seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 23 mm and a duration of 187 seconds.
