A majority of the United States populace agrees that their President, Donald Trump, should be impeached. Trump is considered to have triggered the Iran war and implemented several controversial policies.

Newsweek reported that in a survey published on Wednesday (8/4) local time, 52 percent of registered voters supported Trump’s impeachment, compared to 40 percent who opposed it.

Cited by Press TV on Thursday (9/4/2026), 790 people participated in this survey, initiated by two groups opposing Trump’s war against Iran and other policies: the progressive advocacy organisation Impeach Trump Again and Free Speech for People.

The findings also indicate that one in seven Republicans supports the impeachment process against Trump.

According to the Newsweek report, this poll was conducted by John Bonifaz, president and co-founder of Free Speech for People, for the veteran progressive polling firm Celinda Lake. The poll has a margin of error of 3.9 percent.

“This is an unprecedented result at the beginning of a president’s term,” Bonifaz said during a press conference.

Voters Turn Against Trump

Voters have turned against Trump much earlier than they did against former President Richard Nixon—the only other two-term US president to receive majority support for impeachment.

Previously, the House of Representatives had impeached Trump twice during his first term, but the Senate rejected the impeachment both times.

Trump is currently facing the latest impeachment efforts from several congressional leaders, particularly from the Democratic faction, following his threats and war against Iran since 28 February.

Congress Members Call for Trump’s Impeachment

One of the congress members calling for Trump’s impeachment is Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. The Democratic politician has again called for President Donald Trump’s impeachment, emphasising that the announcement of a temporary ceasefire “changes nothing”.

The President has threatened genocide against the Iranian people and continues to use such threats as leverage,” said the Democratic Party politician in a post on platform X.

“We can no longer risk the world or our nation’s well-being,” she continued, as quoted by Al Jazeera on Wednesday (8/4).

“Whether through the cabinet or Congress, the President must be removed from office. We are playing on the brink of destruction,” Cortez stated.

Previously, dozens of Democratic legislators had also called for Trump to be dismissed from his position regarding his threats against Iran. Some of them now emphasise that their stance remains unchanged despite the ceasefire announcement.
