Vocational Training Becomes Focus of Indonesia-China Education Cooperation
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Chinese Ambassador to Indonesia Wang Lutong has stated that vocational education is a key focus of bilateral cooperation in the education sector, aimed at helping Indonesia develop its human resources (HR). Speaking after the China-Indonesia Media and Think Tank Forum 2026 in Jakarta on Wednesday, Ambassador Wang noted that his party has communicated with several companies in China to support vocational training in Indonesia. “We have invited a number of Chinese companies to build partnerships with campuses in Indonesia for vocational training,” Ambassador Wang said. China also welcomes the Indonesian government’s initiative to send outstanding students to study Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) at Tsinghua University. He has welcomed the arrival of a delegation of rectors from six universities in China who intend to build partnerships with academies, institutes of technology, and vocational higher education institutions in Indonesia. “We also want to partner with Indonesia to combine various industries and technologies with higher education,” he added. Ambassador Wang stated that strengthening cooperation in education, particularly vocational and higher education, is a good step towards opening new job opportunities for the Indonesian people. “This will also be beneficial in enhancing the overall competitiveness of the Indonesian economy,” he said. Earlier this year, Indonesia’s Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology initiated cooperation between the Indonesian Vocational Higher Education Forum (FPTVI) and the Guangdong Education Association for International Exchange (GEAIE). The cooperation scheme includes the establishment of a cooperation centre and an alliance mechanism focusing on 10 key industrial sectors, with the organisation of more than 100 exchange and learning activities. This is aimed at increasing two-way mobility for up to 1,000 students between Indonesia and China, as well as training for 10,000 local Indonesian talents.
