Vocational Students Arrested During Exam After Slashing Another Pupil in Palmerah
Jakarta - Police apprehended two vocational school students, identified by the initials AS and MF, while they were sitting an examination at their school on Wednesday, after the pair were proven to have slashed a student from another school, identified as F, in the Palmerah area of West Jakarta.
Palmerah Sector Police Chief AKP Parman BM Nainggolan stated that the arrests were made after investigators scrutinised CCTV footage from the scene of the incident, which had gone viral on social media. “Currently, we have only detained two perpetrators; the rest will depend on the progress of the investigation. These two perpetrators carried out the attack using a belt and a sickle,” Parman said in Jakarta on Wednesday.
The assault occurred in Gang T, West Palmerah VI, Palmerah, West Jakarta, on Tuesday morning, while the victim, F, was on his way to school. Parman explained that the incident began when a group of students on motorcycles passed through the location. Without any clear reason, one of the perpetrators suddenly struck the victim with a belt. This action triggered another perpetrator to swing a sharp weapon, a sickle, at the victim. As a result of the indiscriminate attack, victim F suffered a laceration on his right shoulder and was immediately taken to hospital.
“The victim’s condition is currently receiving medical treatment, with seven stitches to his right shoulder,” Parman said. Based on the preliminary investigation, police stated that the victim and the two perpetrators did not know each other. As of now, criminal investigation officers from the Palmerah Sector Police are still investigating the motive behind the attack. Because the two perpetrators are still minors, police have assured that the legal process will proceed according to the applicable provisions. “The follow-up will be determined by the investigation. Of course, the legal process will proceed with reference to the Child Protection Law,” Parman stressed.
