Vocational Student in Kupang Assaulted by Drunken Sub-District Secretary

A student from the Kupang Shipping Vocational School (SMK), identified by the initials SAM (16), was assaulted by the Secretary of Penkase Oeleta Sub-District, Melkianus Tosi, in Alak District, Kupang City, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT). At the time of the incident, Melkianus was allegedly intoxicated after consuming alcohol.

“My child was punched twice in the forehead and chest until he fell. At that time, Nus Tosi was drunk,” said SAM’s father, Robertus Mabilani, on Wednesday (22/7/2026).

Robertus explained that the assault took place on Tuesday (21/7/2026) at around 9:00 p.m. WITA. The incident began when SAM and a friend, the child of a TNI member, were returning from hunting birds in the forest. Upon reaching the main road in Penkase Oeleta Sub-District, Melkianus approached them and accused SAM and his friend of frequently burning land in the area.

SAM and his friend denied ever being involved in land burning. However, Melkianus continued to hurl insults at them and then physically assaulted SAM, striking him in the forehead and chest.

“My child fell down. As he was about to punch him again, his friend immediately blocked him (Melkianus),” Robertus recounted.

Following the incident, SAM immediately called his father to report what had happened. SAM then went to his friend’s house to wait. Robertus later went to Melkianus’s house to confront him.

“I went straight to his house to find him. When I arrived, the gate was already locked, but after I called repeatedly, he came out with his wife. When I tried to confirm the incident, he instead said, ‘I hit him, so what do you want?’,” Robertus explained.

Robertus said that after the confrontation, they proceeded to the Kupang City Police to report the assault. SAM has since undergone a medical examination and provided a statement to the police.

“We have filed a report. I have just returned from the Kupang City Police to give my statement. I hope this case is handled seriously,” Robertus added.

The Head of Public Relations of the Kupang City Police, First Inspector Frangky Lapuisaly, confirmed that the case has been reported and is currently under investigation.

“It was reported around midnight. Then, at around 3:00 a.m. WITA, we took the victim for a medical examination,” Frangky stated.
