Vocational School Teachers in Tasikmalaya Enthusiastic About Competency Upskilling Programme
The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen) has said that vocational school (SMK) teachers in Tasikmalaya City are enthusiastic about participating in the 2026 Competency Improvement Programme for Vocational Educators and Education Personnel, Batch 4.
Baharudin, Head of the Centre for Quality Assurance Development of Vocational Education in Machinery and Industrial Engineering (BBPPMPV BMTI) at Kemendikdasmen, said BMTI continues to strive to improve the competency of vocational teachers in all regions, not only for teachers but also for head teachers and supervisors, including instructors at course institutions.
“This year BMTI is training 3,159 educators and education personnel (PTK). God willing, this year our target will even reach more than 100 percent by the end of the year,” Baharudin said in a written statement in Central Jakarta on Thursday.
One of the training participants, Muhammad, a Visual Communication Design (DKV) teacher at SMK Negeri 1 Tasikmalaya, said he was pleased to take part in the training activity.
According to him, in the current era of digitalisation, the use of AI is very widespread, so teachers must certainly be able to keep up with technological developments.
He also expressed hope that training like this can be held regularly so that all teachers, especially vocational ones, can take part in training, and that there needs to be a tiered training system to further improve the mastery of vocational teachers’ competencies.
“Increase the amount of training to improve human resources, not just once. Teachers who have not yet participated should take turns to join, so it is not just once and there are levels too, from beginner to advanced,” Muhammad added.
In line with Muhammad, Samrah Hadian Ardi, a DKV teacher from SMK Negeri 4 Tasikmalaya, said the AI training is very much needed, considering that teachers currently have an important role in guiding students to use technology wisely, especially AI.
“I think this training is very much needed because now is the era of developing technology, especially now that there is AI. This can help us, but we still have to be able to control it. It is not AI that controls us, but we who control AI,” said Sam.
