Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia, Mr Ricky P. Gozali, along with the Deputy Head of Bareskrim Polri, Nunung Syaifuddin, and Kalakhar Botasupal, attended the press conference on the Destruction of Fake Rupiah Notes from Bank Indonesia’s Clarification at the 6th Floor of the Kebun Sirih Building, Bank Indonesia Headquarters Complex, Jakarta, on Wednesday (13/5/2026). Staff displayed the fake Rupiah notes that were to be destroyed after the press conference on the Destruction of Fake Rupiah Notes from Bank Indonesia’s Clarification. The destruction targeted non-genuine Rupiah originating from clarifications on public reports regarding suspected authenticity, as well as results from banknote processing at Bank Indonesia. Throughout 2025, there were 252 police reports related to counterfeit currency crimes. Bareskrim stated that this destruction is a non-judicial measure to prevent fake money from re-entering circulation in society. The destruction process has obtained permission through a decree from the Chief of the Central Jakarta District Court. Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia, Ricky Perdana Gozali, stated that the fake money destroyed amounted to more than 460,000 sheets. The destruction was carried out in accordance with standard operating procedures by shredding using a paper mixing machine. Bank Indonesia recorded that 466,535 sheets of non-genuine Rupiah were destroyed in the activity. In addition to repressive measures, BI continues to strengthen preventive and educational efforts through campaigns to recognise the authenticity features of the Rupiah, including 3D and 5J education for the public.
