Visitors Report Feeling Electric Shocks at Mall; Botani Square Responds

A visitor’s account of feeling an electric shock inside Botani Square mall in Bogor has gone viral on social media. Mall management said the sensation was caused by static electricity.

“The sensation of being shocked may be caused by static electricity resulting from interactions between clothing, footwear and the floor. However, every report remains a matter of concern for us and will be followed up as needed. We are paying attention to this matter,” Botani Square General Manager Lanny Kuputri said when contacted on Friday (23 October 2026).

Lanny also responded to reports of visitors experiencing the shock-like sensation in a statement posted on Botani Square’s social media account. She said the mall’s electrical installations are inspected regularly to ensure visitors’ safety and comfort.

“Botani Square understands visitors’ concerns about the electric-shock-like sensation experienced while going about their activities in the mall. We apologise for any inconvenience,” Lanny said.

“The electrical installations and building equipment at Botani Square are inspected regularly in accordance with applicable regulations, to support the safety of visitors and the building’s assets,” she added.
