Visitor numbers at JIS surge 300 percent after improved transport access, says Governor

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo said that weekend visitor numbers at Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) have risen by as much as 300 per cent since transport access to the area was made easier.

“Transport to JIS is now far easier. In fact, last Saturday and Sunday, the number of people coming to JIS rose by more than 300 per cent, and that was in the afternoon and evening as well,” said Pramono in Central Jakarta on Thursday.

He revealed that local residents have also begun using JIS for evening exercise.

As previously reported, Pramono and Minister of Transport Dudy Purwagandhi officially inaugurated the JIS commuter rail station and a pedestrian crossing bridge (JPO) connecting the JIS area with Ancol.

According to Pramono, part of Jakarta’s future lies in this area. He believes that sooner or later, the location is bound to become one of the most visited places in the city.

He hopes the venue can be utilised to its fullest potential. Beyond the station and the pedestrian bridge, Pramono also stressed that the JIS pitch should be put to maximum use.

“There must not be a situation where, after every match or one or two concerts, the venue sits idle for two or three months. That must not happen again. If that can be achieved, I am confident this place will surely become a venue highly sought after by various groups in society,” said Pramono.
