Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo stated that the number of visitors to Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) on weekends has surged by up to 300 percent since transport access to the area was made easier. “Now, transport to JIS is much easier. In fact, yesterday on Saturday and Sunday, the number of people coming to JIS increased by more than 300 percent, and that was in the afternoon and evening,” Pramono said in Central Jakarta on Thursday. He noted that the public has also begun using JIS for sports activities at night. As is known, Pramono, together with Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi, inaugurated the JIS Commuter Line Station and a pedestrian bridge connecting the area to Ancol. According to Pramono, part of Jakarta’s future lies in this area. He believes that sooner or later, the location will become a highly popular destination. He expressed hope that the venue would be utilised to its maximum potential. Beyond just the station and the pedestrian bridge, Pramono also urged that the JIS pitch be optimised properly. “Don’t let it be used for a match or one or two concerts and then sit idle for two or three months. That must not happen again. If that can be done, I am sure this place will become a venue highly sought after by various community groups,” Pramono said.
