Visitor at jail caught with drugs

JAKARTA (JP): Penitentiary guards caught a female visitor carrying five packets of heroin inside her underwear on Wednesday at the Pondok Bambu Women's Penitentiary in East Jakarta.

Duren Sawit police chief Comr. Listyo Sigit identified the visitor who was handed over by penitentiary guards to police, as Indriah Purwaningsih, 24, a Central Jakarta resident.

Indriah came to the penitentiary on Wednesday afternoon to visit her friend, Mami Cika, 24, who has been jailed for possession of shabu-shabu (crystal methamphetamine), Listyo told reporters on Wednesday.

When Indriah arrived at the penitentiary, she was looking very nervous and scared, and this aroused the suspicion of the guards.

"So, a female guard took her to the bathroom and strip- searched her. Five packets of heroin were found inside her panties," he explained.

Listyo said that his personnel were interrogating Indriah, since he said she had visited Mami several times in the penitentiary.

"She could be a drug supplier for the remand prisoners and convicts in Pondok Bambu penitentiary," Listyo told reporters.

On Tuesday afternoon, a female drug suspect being held on remand escaped from the penitentiary, reportedly assisted by guards. (ylt)
