Visiting Vacant Garden in Central Jakarta, Rano Karno Discovers 35-Year-Old Unclear Land Issues
Jakarta Deputy Governor Rano Karno attended the “Bang Doel Sapa Warga” event at the Kampung Wisata Eduwisata Bhineka in Kebon Kosong, Central Jakarta, on Friday (24/4/2026).
During the visit, Rano received various complaints from residents, one of which concerned the land status that has remained unclear for decades.
“After observing earlier, it turns out there is indeed a major primary problem, namely the land status here. Because we heard that this issue has gone unanswered for nearly 35 years,” Rano said on Friday.
In fact, seven neighbourhood units (RW) have chosen not to participate in the Development Planning Consultation (Musrenbang) because they feel their proposals will not be realised.
He emphasised that the issue would be discussed immediately through a limited meeting (ratas) to find a solution.
Rano assessed that the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government needs to ensure clarity on the land status before realising development.
“Insya Allah, that’s why I said this must be discussed urgently in a limited meeting (ratas). Why? There are seven RWs that do not want to join Musrenbang, because they feel it’s pointless,” Rano said.
In addition, he highlighted the presence of flats in the area subject to Land and Building Tax (PBB).
“We will help check the usage rights as well, until when. If the term has indeed expired, there are mechanisms that can be pursued,” he stated.
Furthermore, Rano explained that the Kebon Kosong area has a history as part of the former Kemayoran Airport.
When the airport was relocated to Cengkareng, the land ownership status became divided.
“Some may already belong to the DKI Provincial Government, but some are indeed owned by the State Secretariat (Setneg). That’s what we need to inquire about,” he said.
He assured that the DKI Provincial Government would strive to help resolve the issue so that development in the Kebon Kosong area can proceed.
“We will try to assist. Because we heard earlier that this problem has gone unanswered for nearly 35 years,” Rano said.
This programme, he said, has been started in Lebak Bulus, South Jakarta, and will continue to various areas in Jakarta.
“This activity is the first to listen. Proposals have indeed entered Musrenbang, but some are realised and some are not,” he said.
