Visiting UNIFIL Member Treated in Lebanon, TNI PMPP Commander Avoids Mentioning Troop Repatriation
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, LEBANON – The Commander of the TNI Peacekeeping Mission Centre (PMPP), Major General TNI Iwan Bambang Setiawan, stated that the Indonesian government is prepared to protect TNI personnel serving in Lebanon. However, Iwan did not elaborate on the extent of that protection.
This was stated by Iwan after visiting the peacekeeping personnel from the TNI Yonmek Satgas Konga XXIII-S, who were victims of the UNIFIL incident and are currently receiving treatment at Saint George Hospital in Beirut. Iwan did not provide any statement regarding demands for the repatriation of troops from Lebanon.
“Indonesia is committed to continuing to provide protection to all personnel,” said Iwan in a press statement received by Republika on Monday (6/4/2026).
During the event, Iwan was accompanied by the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Lebanon, Dicky Komar, UNIFIL Southeast DCO Colonel Inf A. Juni Toa, and TNI PMPP Dirbinops Colonel Inf Untung Prayitno. Iwan offered moral support and prayers to the three personnel being treated, namely First Lieutenant Inf Sulthan Wirdean Maulana, Private First Class Rico Pramudia, and Private First Class Deni Rianto.
“The presence reaffirms the state’s commitment, particularly the TNI leadership, to always be present and provide attention to personnel serving in the mission area,” said Iwan.
Iwan also stated that the presence of Indonesian troops in Lebanon is a form of peace maintenance.
“Actively contributing to supporting global peace maintenance efforts through the deployment of Garuda Contingent troops,” said Iwan.
Previously, UNIFIL reported that Private First Class Farizal Rhomadhon was killed due to a projectile explosion near one of the Indonesian posts in the village of Adchit Al Qusayr on Sunday (29/3/2026). Meanwhile, Captain Inf Zulmi Aditya Iskandar and Staff Sergeant Muhammad Nur Ichwan were killed due to an explosion from an unknown source on Monday (30/3/2026).
