Visiting Students Poisoned by Free Nutritious Meal Programme in North Sumatra, Gibran: I Apologise, We Are at Fault

Vice President Gibrante Rakabuming Raka visited Efarina Etaham Hospital and Amanda Berastagi General Hospital in Karo Regency, North Sumatra, on Friday (11/09/2026). The Vice President personally inspected the condition of the children currently undergoing treatment due to food poisoning from the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) programme.

Gibran initially spoke with parents who reported that their children were also affected by the poisoning. The Vice President emphasised that the government would bear all costs for medical treatment and care. His presence served as a demonstration of concern for the children’s health and to ensure that their recovery process proceeds swiftly and optimally.

“We will cover all medical costs. Until the children are truly recovered and return to school, it is our responsibility; we will cover everything until they are completely healed,” said Gibran at Efarina Etaham Hospital on Friday (11/09/2026).

Gibran, accompanied by the Governor of North Sumatra, Bobby Nasution, reaffirmed that the government takes full responsibility for the incident. Gibran also ensured that the patients receive the best possible medical services.

“Governor, please assist them; we will cover everything until the children are fully recovered. We will ensure the children receive the best service in the hospital, including doctors, medicines, and whatever else is needed until they are healed. If any costs arise, Governor, it is our collective responsibility; we will cover it all,” he explained.
