Visiting NTT Evacuees, Prabowo Offers Condolences and Asks About Free Nutritious Meals Programme
President Prabowo Subianto conveyed his condolences to earthquake victims in East Nusa Tenggara. He made the remarks while inspecting an evacuation post in Nagekeo Regency on Wednesday (26/8/2026).
After viewing the post facilities, residents immediately surrounded Prabowo when he arrived at Berdikari Field in Nagekeo.
“I convey to all the people of Flores, the areas affected by the disaster, my condolences to those who have lost family members,” Prabowo said.
He said the central government is continuing to monitor the situation and prepare assistance to mitigate the problem.
Prabowo also asked the people of Flores to remain patient while the government prepares all forms of infrastructure repairs, including schools and housing.
“This is a natural problem. We must be vigilant, we must learn, and we must take preparatory steps. We have prepared repairs and temporary measures so that schools can reopen soon. For safety, schools may operate in tents first. According to experts, we need to be patient for perhaps a maximum of three more weeks before everything is relatively safe,” Prabowo said.
The central government also plans to begin repairing homes and building temporary housing.
“We will start building temporary housing and repairing homes and so on. Trust that the government will not abandon its own people. We are present and we will continue to help you,” Prabowo said.
On the occasion, Prabowo also said he had received a report from the Nagekeo Regent that many residents have benefited from the Free Nutritious Meals programme.
“MBG, is that true? (Yes!) Should it be continued or not?” Prabowo asked.
“(Continue!) Thank you. I think we should continue it so that our children are healthy, so that our pregnant mothers are healthy, and so that the elderly are safe as they enjoy their later years,” he said.
