Visiting China's Maritime Authority, BKI Expands Ship Certification Services in Asia and Globally

Jakarta – The parent holding company for state-owned surveying services, IDSurvey, along with PT Biro Klasifikasi Indonesia (Persero) or BKI, has undertaken an official visit to the Maritime Safety Administration of the People’s Republic of China as part of plans to open BKI services in China.

BKI’s President Director, R. Benny Susanto, explained that the visit aims to strengthen cooperation in ship surveying and certification, as well as to increase support for BKI’s service users operating in international markets.

“This visit discusses preparations for opening a BKI service unit in China, including opportunities for cooperation in providing classification services and strengthening support for maritime safety,” said Benny in his statement on Thursday, 16 April 2026.

He stated that this initiative is part of BKI’s strategy to expand the scope of its services and bring technical support closer to customers in the Asian region and global markets.

Benny hopes that opening services in China will strengthen BKI’s role in supporting maritime safety, while also improving the quality and accessibility of services for international users.

“BKI’s presence in a global maritime activity hub is important to ensure responsive services that meet industry needs,” said Benny.

He added that this expansion step affirms BKI’s commitment to enhancing credibility and competitiveness at the global level.

Therefore, continued Benny, it is part of the process towards membership in the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS).

“These efforts are expected to strengthen BKI’s position as a national classification body capable of competing and contributing to the international maritime industry,” he said.
