Visited by Purbaya's Special Task Force, 40 Chinese Steel Companies Promise to Become Legal
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa revealed that the special task force he formed has visited 40 Chinese steel companies that have been found not to comply with tax regulations. After being approached by the special task force involving the Directorate General of Taxes (DJP) and the Directorate General of Customs and Excise (DJBC), the 40 Chinese steel companies expressed their willingness to meet all previously unmet tax requirements. “The Tax Office has already spoken with them. Of course, they want to go legal,” said Purbaya in the area of the Attorney General’s Office headquarters, Jakarta, on Wednesday (13/5/2026). Purbaya stated that, however, he could not yet disclose the realisation of the tax obligations fulfilled by the 40 Chinese steel companies. “We’ll see what happens going forward. If there’s no further movement from them, we’ll pursue it again,” Purbaya remarked. For information, the 40 Chinese steel companies found to be evading taxes have been targeted by Director General of Taxes Bimo Wijayanto since the beginning of this year. The estimated state losses caused by the 40 companies amount to Rp 4 trillion annually from 2016 to 2019. “The losses from those 40 companies are estimated at around 4 trillion per year. From 2016 to 2019,” said Director General of Taxes Bimo when met in Cikupa, Banten, on Wednesday (5/2/2026).
