Visit to Batam: BPJS Employment Directors Listen to Workers' Concerns
The Director General of BPJS Ketenagakerjaan, Saiful Hidayat, along with the Director of Finance and Risk Management, Bambang Joko Sutarto, visited the Griya Pekerja BPJS Ketenagakerjaan in Batam to inspect the housing facilities while also engaging in direct dialogue with the workers residing in the area.
“We are here to witness firsthand the facilities we have prepared for the workers. Moreover, the most important aspect is that we also want to hear directly from some of the residents about what the fellow workers feel when using the Griya Pekerja facilities,” stated Saiful.
Saiful noted that Griya Pekerja BPJS Ketenagakerjaan represents one form of support for the Three Million Houses Programme launched by President Prabowo Subianto, aimed at fulfilling the need for decent and affordable housing for the community, particularly workers.
This programme also aligns with Asta Cita, particularly in efforts to build quality and competitive human resources, as well as to improve welfare for all Indonesian people, including the worker community.
In addition to providing housing with affordable rental prices, the location of Griya Pekerja near industrial areas offers benefits such as efficiency in travel time and a reduction in traffic accident risks for workers.
“It is hoped that with the Griya Pekerja location close to the workplace, it can reduce traffic accident risks. As we all know, traffic accident risks are one of the quite high risks faced by fellow workers when going to and from work,” he added.
In Batam, BPJS Ketenagakerjaan has introduced three Griya Pekerja locations in Bumi Lancang Kuning, Muka Kuning, and Kabil. The occupancy rate reaches around 98 percent with approximately 5,000 active worker residents, indicating the high demand for decent housing in strategic industrial areas.
The presence of Griya Pekerja also provides economic impacts for the surrounding community, particularly through the growth of micro, small, and medium enterprises (UMKM) in the housing environment.
Saiful stated that Griya Pekerja is part of BPJS Ketenagakerjaan’s main focus, which emphasises three principles: Coverage, Care, and Credibility, where its presence becomes a tangible manifestation of care for the participants.
