PT Virgo Karya Shipping, the management company for the owner of the Virgo Transport 8 vessel, has claimed it will cover all costs for the repatriation of deceased victims’ remains and accommodation for their families.

“We will cover everything until they reach their hometowns,” said Dwi, a representative of PT Virgo Karya Shipping in Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan, on Wednesday.

He also issued a public apology to all parties involved regarding the incident.

“We offer our deepest condolences to the families of the deceased victims,” he added.

Regarding the injured victims currently receiving medical treatment, it is hoped they will recover and be able to return to their respective home regions.

Medical expenses for all victims are guaranteed by Jasa Raharja and Jasaraharja Putera (JRP), in accordance with the cooperation agreement with the shipping company. Furthermore, compensation for the deceased has already been handed over to their legal heirs.

The Virgo vessel departed from Tanjung Perak Port in Surabaya, bound for Trisakti Port in Banjarmasin, carrying 243 passengers and crew members, including 8 entrained vehicles. The manifest consisted of 59 adult passengers, one child passenger, 126 drivers and assistants, 27 passengers or ship partners, and 30 ship crew members.

According to reports from Basarnas, 108 victims have been found safe during the evacuation process by the joint SAR team in the Java Sea, specifically in the waters of Tanjung Selatan, South Kalimantan, near Masalembu Island, Sumenep Regency, East Java.
