Viral Zig-Zag Convoy on the Becakayu Toll Road, Group of Drivers Apologises
The group of reckless car drivers who drove in a zig-zag pattern on the Bekasi-Cawang-Kampung Melayu Toll Road (Becakayu) have apologised after a video went viral on social media.
The Traffic Police Directorate of Metro Jaya Regional Police’s Patroli Jalan Raya (PJR) unit, AKBP Reiki Indra Brata Manggala, said authorities had identified six drivers captured in the viral video. He said officers had also met the drivers and issued them a verbal warning for the zig-zag driving.
“To the drivers who performed zig-zagging on the Becakayu Toll Road, East Jakarta, we issued a verbal warning,” he told reporters on Saturday (7/3).
Reiki said the six drivers, initialed N, I, H, K, H and A, had apologised for driving recklessly. He added that, based on the investigations, the drivers were on average 25 years old and held driving licences.
The zig-zag driving was deliberately done to create content supporting the sale of used cars. “Their motive was to generate content while also selling cars, as some of them work in buying and selling cars,” he explained.
Furthermore, Reiki said the authorities did not impose any penalties or fines on the drivers. “We are prioritising preventive measures and providing educational guidance,” he said.
Earlier, a video showing several cars performing zig-zag maneuvers on the Becakayu Toll Road in East Jakarta went viral on social media. In the video posted by the Instagram account @dashcamindonesia, five cars can be seen weaving in zig-zag fashion on a relatively quiet road.
