Viral Woman in Pamekasan Stops Funeral, Brings Up Rp215 Million Debt
An unexpected incident occurred in Ragung Village, Torjun District, Sampang Regency, Madura. A woman suddenly halted the funeral procession of a local resident. What happened?
According to circulating videos, the unidentified woman stopped the funeral to demand accountability from the deceased. It is known that the deceased had previously owed her a large amount.
The deceased was known to owe 50 grams of 24-karat gold and Rp 15 million in cash. In total, the deceased was said to owe Rp 215 million to her. The kyai who heard this attempted to calm the mourners attending the funeral.
‘Kyai, there is something I want to say. The deceased owed me 50 grams of 24-karat gold and Rp 15 million in cash, amounting to around Rp 215 million,’ the woman was quoted as saying, according to the Instagram account @moodindo.news on Wednesday 4 March 2026.
The woman also claimed she had pressed the debt on the deceased’s husband. Unfortunately, he could not settle the debt of his late wife.
‘I have pressed the husband, but payment hasn’t arrived,’ she said.
Interestingly, according to the woman’s account, the deceased did not owe money only to her. At least two others were also said to be owed by the deceased.
‘To this person, 10 grams; to this person, 7 grams of Malaysian gold,’ the woman stated.
The woman also asked that the funeral be halted until the debt issues could be resolved.
‘Please do not bury yet until there is someone to oversee (the children, her husband, and her relatives). I am sorry; do not bury until the debts are paid,’ the woman said.
The post immediately drew the attention of social media users and sparked online debate. Many social media users agreed with the woman’s actions, arguing that debt will accompany the deceased beyond death.

‘Well done, mother, you are helping on the Day of Judgment so that the deceased won’t face heavy punishment in the afterlife,’ another said.
‘That mother is right, even the Prophet Muhammad reportedly refused to pray for someone who had died because there was still debt in the world,’ another added.
