Viral: Woman Experiences Racism on TransJakarta Bus Corridor 10H

A viral video on social media shows an act of racism inside a TransJakarta bus on corridor 10H. The incident occurred on Wednesday, February 11, at 5:50 p.m., when a male passenger on the bus suddenly directed racist remarks at a woman standing in front of him.

Based on the account of the video uploader @ryll.poke, the man initially started ranting in a demeaning tone, telling the woman to “go to a hotel” because he considered her to be of Chinese descent.

“At 5:50 p.m. on TransJakarta 10H, this crazy man was ranting and calling her Chinese, telling her to go to a hotel. My girlfriend and I were standing nearby. His racist remarks were audible and I confronted him,” the account owner wrote.

Upon hearing the racist remarks, the woman did not stay silent. She immediately gave the man a stern warning.

“Why are you taking photos of people? I’ll crack your head open,” the middle-aged man said. “Oh, can you afford to pay for that?” the woman replied. “Pay, pay. You’re crazy,” the middle-aged man retorted.

Meanwhile, a man in a white t-shirt sitting behind the man also tried to intervene. He felt the woman’s response was justified since the middle-aged man had been making racist remarks first.

“That’s enough, sir. You were the one name-calling first. You shouldn’t be calling people ‘Chinese’ like that, sir. That’s called racism, sir,” the man in the white t-shirt said.

“I’m Indonesian, you know. What’s the problem?” the woman replied.

The middle-aged man fell silent and only showed his irritation through a glaring expression.

The viral post immediately received thousands of comments from netizens. Many of them expressed appreciation for the man in the white t-shirt, as he was the only man on the bus who stood up for the woman against the racist remarks.

“The guy in the white t-shirt is the definition of act of service. He looked like he didn’t care and was busy playing games. But he was the only one brave enough to defend her,” one netizen commented.
