Viral: Wife Admitted to a Psychiatric Hospital by Her Husband, Why Are Her Hands and Feet Tied?
A video showing a woman being tied to a bed at the Soeharto Heerdjan Psychiatric Hospital in Grogol Petamburan, West Jakarta, circulated on social media. In the clip posted by the account @moodindo.news, the woman’s mother questioned why the pink-shirted woman wearing shorts was admitted to a psychiatric hospital. When the video was recorded, the woman lay on a bed with her hands and feet bound, the aim to restrict movement, i.e., restraint. ‘A mother is angry because her child, who is mentally healthy, was admitted to a psychiatric hospital by the son-in-law who became the victim’s husband,’ read the caption of the post, quoted on Friday (6/3/2026). Some staff were seen blocking the mother from filming the condition of her daughter. In response to the video circulating on social media, the Soeharto Heerdjan Hospital spoke out. Through an official post on the Instagram account @rs_soehartoheerdjan, the hospital clarified the procedures for handling patients depicted in the video. ‘In response to the circulating video showing the binding of a patient in the inpatient ward of Soeharto Heerdjan Hospital and the various comments arising in the community, especially on social media, we understand that this may cause concern and questions,’ the hospital’s official statement read, quoted on Friday. Regarding the position of the woman who appears bound in the video, Soeharto Heerdjan Hospital explains that the action is a normal medical procedure, i.e., restraint. The RSJSH also confirms that the action was not performed arbitrarily and has followed standard operating procedures, prioritising patient safety. ‘The restraint is carried out on the recommendation of the Patient Responsible Doctor (DPJP), in this case the psychiatrist, considering the patient’s medical condition,’ it continued. The device used to bind the woman is claimed to be safe because it is a specialized medical device used by trained healthcare staff. The hospital asserts that all patient management has undergone procedural checks.
