Viral 'Wailing Wall': Visitors Asked Not to Wail at Jokowi's Residence
The residence of Indonesia’s seventh President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) on Jalan Kutai Utara No. 1 has become the focus of online attention after the location was suddenly labelled “Solo’s Wailing Wall” on Google Maps.
The name appeared precisely at the coordinates of Jokowi’s private home in Sumber subdistrict, Banjarsari district.
The furore intensified after a video circulated of a young man performing a wailing act in front of the residence’s gates. One such video was shared by the Instagram account @indopium.
“The Wailing Wall in Solo has become one of the most hyped spots for Gen Z youth,” the account wrote on Monday (16 February).
Jokowi’s adjutant, Senior Commissioner Syarif Fitriansyah, acknowledged he was aware of the unusual name appearing on the digital platform. However, he could not confirm whether Jokowi himself was aware of it.
“Yes, I already know about it. I’m not sure whether [the President] knows yet or not,” he said when contacted.
When asked about the possibility of requesting a name change on Google Maps, Syarif declined to comment further. He also said he was not offended by the label.
Furthermore, Syarif stressed that there are no restrictions on members of the public wishing to visit Jokowi’s private residence, despite the location having gone viral.
“There are no restrictions — everything remains as normal,” Syarif said.
Nevertheless, he urged the public not to perform wailing acts in front of the residence’s gates. Syarif noted that a number of visitors have continued to attempt similar stunts up to the present day.
