Viral Video Shows Purbalingga Truck Carrying 1.3 Tonnes of Eggs Looted by Residents After Accident
A truck carrying 1.3 tonnes of eggs overturned, scattering its cargo across the road in Kutawis Village, Bukateja District, Purbalingga Regency, Central Java. Disturbingly, local residents began looting the eggs while the driver was still trapped inside the cabin.
Sopir Arif Rahman (50) stated the incident occurred on Sunday (28/6) at approximately 4.05 p.m. Western Indonesia Time. Arif and his assistant, Romadon, were transporting eggs collected from a local breeder’s farm to Purwokerto.
‘Before I started the incline, a black Avanza coming from the opposite direction was veering slightly to the right. I swerved to the left to avoid a collision,’ Arif said, as quoted by detikJateng on Thursday (2/7/2026).
The truck then overturned onto its right side. As a result of the accident, Arif was temporarily trapped inside the cabin. The right-side door was blocked by the overturned body of the vehicle, so they could only exit through the left door after being assisted by residents.
‘We were trapped in the cabin for about 10 to 15 minutes. Eventually, residents came, opened the left door, and helped us get out,’ he said.
While still trapped inside the cabin, Arif saw many people arriving at the scene. He initially assumed the residents were helping to salvage the scattered eggs, but after managing to get out, Arif realised the eggs were actually being taken away by a number of people.
‘At first, I thought positively. I thought they were saving them so I could collect them later to sell. But it turned out they were taking them home,’ he explained.
He estimated the total cargo transported was around 1.3 tonnes, with a value of approximately Rp 26 million. As a result of the incident, Arif said he could only drive his truck home empty.
