A visitor to one of the night entertainment venues in North Toraja Regency, South Sulawesi, was allegedly assaulted by five TNI members and one police officer. The video recording of the beating has gone viral on social media.

The two-minute-four-second video shows several individuals involved in the assault, using hands and even chairs from the location. Some women in the video attempted to intervene and stop the beating.

“Yes, it’s true, one of the police officers was involved. For now, we are still investigating after the victim filed a report,” said the Head of Propam at North Toraja Police Station, Iptu Damianus, on Friday (3/4).

According to Damianus, based on the complainant’s statement, the beating incident at a cafe in North Toraja was triggered by an issue involving alcoholic beverages.

“The complainant’s statement indicates the beating was due to a drinks issue,” he said.

Nevertheless, Damianus stated that they would thoroughly investigate the incident and impose strict sanctions if rogue members of the North Toraja Police Resort were involved.

“Currently, we are deepening the investigation by gathering evidence related to the involvement of rogue members. If proven, the Criminal Investigation Unit will process it criminally,” he explained.

Separately, the Commander of the 1414 Tana Toraja Military District Command, Lieutenant Colonel Inf Armal, confirmed that all TNI personnel present at the location during the incident have been secured. Additionally, he said the victim has reported the assault by the apparatus to the TNI side.

“The involved members have been detained by us and will be processed according to regulations,” said Armal.

The TNI members, according to Armal, are currently undergoing further examination.

“They are currently undergoing examination,” he stated.
