Viral Video Shows Passenger's Hand Trapped in KRL Door as Train Departs, KAI Issues Safety Plea

A viral video circulating on social media shows a female passenger’s hand trapped in the door of a KRL Commuter Line train as it departs. Despite the passenger’s hand being stuck while holding a plastic cup of coffee, the train continued its journey.

In the footage, the passenger appears to be trying to pull her hand free from inside the carriage. Other passengers are seen attempting to help by trying to pry the door open. A platform officer was also observed signalling towards the rear of the train, where the door control is located.

Public Relations Manager of KAI Commuter, Leza Arlan, confirmed the incident occurred on Commuter Line number 5150 travelling from Kampung Bandan to Bekasi at Duri Station on Wednesday, 22 July.

According to Leza, the passenger attempted to board the train as the doors were already closing. She explained that the platform officer promptly gave a danger signal to the train staff. The door subsequently reopened briefly to ensure the indicator light was extinguished, confirming it was safe, before the train resumed its journey.

KAI Commuter emphasised that passenger safety is the top priority and that staff will act swiftly in any potentially dangerous situation. The company issued a strong appeal for all passengers not to force their way into the carriage when the doors are in the process of closing, as this poses a serious safety risk. Passengers are also reminded to heed staff instructions, prioritise personal safety, and allow sufficient space during boarding and alighting to ensure a safe and comfortable journey for everyone.
