Viral Video Shows Man Attacking Two People with Sharp Weapon Outside Kupang Cafe, Turns Out to Be a Recidivist
A video of a man running amok while carrying a sharp weapon and attacking two people in front of Oosten Cafe, Kupang City, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), has gone viral on social media. The perpetrator, later identified as Iswanto (22), was immediately arrested by police at the scene. The incident occurred in front of Oosten Cafe, Jalan Frans Seda Number 103, Oesapa Barat Village, Kelapa Lima District, Kupang City, on Tuesday evening (16/6) at around 7.25 pm local time. Iswanto, described as a recidivist in a motorcycle theft case, was secured by on-duty traffic police and Kupang City Police officers shortly after the incident. The arrest was recorded in Police Report Number: LP/B/691/VI/2026/SPKT/POLRESTA KUPANG KOTA/POLDA NTT. Two victims, identified as Rh (24) and Rizky (26), sustained injuries and were rushed to Kartini Hospital in Kupang. Head of Criminal Investigation at Kupang City Police, AKP Jumpatua Simanjorang, stated that the suspect was apprehended not long after the assault occurred. “The suspect was immediately secured at the crime scene by on-duty traffic police and Kupang City Police officers who moved quickly after monitoring the incident. The suspect has now been handed over to the Criminal Investigation Unit for further legal proceedings,” Jumpatua said on Wednesday (17/6/2026). Based on initial examination results, the suspect went to the boarding room of victim RH (24), a civil servant from Makassar, to look for his girlfriend with the initials VT, who is a colleague of the victim. However, the victim claimed not to know the woman’s whereabouts. That answer enraged the suspect. “Because victim RH answered that he did not know where VT was, the suspect, who was under the influence of alcohol, immediately choked the victim from the front. The victim managed to break free but was choked again from behind. When victim RH tried to run, the suspect immediately pulled out a sharp weapon and chased him,” Jumpatua explained. Victim RH then ran and locked himself in a neighbour’s boarding room before being evacuated by residents. As a result of the incident, RH suffered abrasions on his neck and scratch marks on his back. After failing to catch RH, the suspect got into an argument with Rizky (26), a technician working at the scene. Rizky reprimanded the suspect and asked about a collapsed boarding house fence. “After being reprimanded like that, the suspect became even more furious and attacked victim Rizky with a knife. Victim Rizky managed to dodge and challenged the suspect to an unarmed duel. The suspect initially agreed to the challenge, but when the duel was about to begin, the suspect instead pulled out a knife hidden at his waist,” Jumpatua detailed. Rizky then ran towards Oosten Cafe. However, he fell and was attacked by the suspect. The victim suffered three stab wounds to his left thigh, as well as abrasions on his right thigh from hitting the asphalt. On-duty traffic police and Kupang City Police officers who were in the vicinity then arrested the perpetrator. Police also seized a machete used in the attack. The Criminal Investigation Unit of Kupang City Police is currently conducting intensive examinations of the suspect. Investigators have also processed the crime scene, requested visum et repertum reports for both victims, examined several witnesses, and confiscated evidence.
