Viral Video Shows Man Attacking Two People with Sharp Weapon Outside Kupang Cafe, Turns Out to Be a Recidivist
A video of a man rampaging with a sharp weapon and attacking two people in front of Oosten Cafe, Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), has gone viral on social media. The perpetrator, later identified as Iswanto (22), was immediately apprehended by the police at the scene.
The incident took place in front of Oosten Cafe, Jalan Frans Seda, West Oesapa, Kupang, on Tuesday (16/6) evening at approximately 7:25 PM WITA. Iswanto, who is known to be a recidivist involved in a previous motorcycle theft case, was detained by traffic police and Kupang City Police officers shortly after the event.
The arrest is documented in Police Report Number: LP/B/691/VI/2026/SPKT/POLRESTA KUPANG KOTA/POLDA NTT. The two victims, identified as Rh (24) and Rizky (26), sustained injuries and were rushed to Kartini Hospital in Kupang.
Head of Criminal Investigation at Kupang City Police, AKP Jumpatua Simanjorang, stated that the suspect was secured shortly after the assault occurred. “The suspect was secured at the crime scene by traffic and police duty officers who acted quickly after monitoring the incident. The suspect has now been handed over to the Criminal Investigation Unit for further legal processing,” Jumpatua said on Wednesday (17/6/2026).
Based on initial investigations, the suspect went to the boarding house of victim RH (24), a civil servant from Makassar, to search for his girlfriend, VT, who is a colleague of the victim. However, the victim claimed not to know the woman’s whereabouts, which provoked the suspect.
“Because the victim, RH, replied that he did not know VT’s whereabouts, the suspect, who was under the influence of alcohol, immediately choked the victim from the front. The victim managed to break free, but was choked again from behind. When the victim tried to run, the suspect drew a sharp weapon and chased him,” Jumpatua explained.
The victim, RH, managed to run and lock himself in a neighbour’s room before being evacuated by residents. As a result of the incident, RH suffered abrasions on his neck and scratch marks on his back.
After failing to catch RH, the suspect became involved in an altercation with Rizky (26), a technician working at the scene. Rizky reprimanded the suspect and questioned him regarding a collapsed boarding house fence. “Upon being reprimanded, the suspect became even more enraged and attacked Rizky with a knife. Rizky attempted to evade him and challenged the suspect to a bare-handed duel. The suspect initially agreed, but as the duel was about to begin, the suspect instead drew a knife hidden at his waist,” Jumpatua detailed.
Rizky then ran towards Oosten Cafe, but tripped and was attacked by the suspect. The victim sustained three stab wounds and a laceration on his left thigh, as well as abrasions on his right thigh from hitting the asphalt.
Police officers on duty in the vicinity subsequently arrested the perpetrator. The police also seized a machete used in the attack. Currently, the Kupang City Police Criminal Investigation Unit is conducting an intensive interrogation of the suspect. Investigators have also processed the crime scene, requested medical reports (visum et repertum) for both victims, interviewed several witnesses, and seized evidence.
